About Us

Our Founder and award winning Head Coach, Howard Jones Our Founder and award winning Head Coach, Howard Jones

Meet our founder and Head Coach HOWARD JONES, known to us all as "Coach H" and the driving force behind the organisation.

BOWLS . COACH is delighted to have Howard Jones, Bucks County Coach (2019-23 and 2025- >) and Head Coach at Newport Pagnell Bowls Club, as Director of Coaching. As a former professional football coach, he comes to us with having gained over 40 years of experience in Academy & Club Management/Coaching and National Association coaching. Among his many professional appointments, he was a former Staff Coach with the Football Association of South Africa tutoring former players on the techniques of coaching and Head of Soccer at Pretoria University and support coach to the South African Sports Foundation. Howard also has extensive experience in sports marketing. After returning to the UK he stepped back from active sports coaching to take up a corporate management role until his retirement in 2010 following which, he returned to bowls, a sport he initially played socially in South Africa. However, realising how much he missed the coaching environment, it did not take long before he was persuaded to return to coaching and he decided to add bowls coaching qualifications to his already extensive experience. As founder of our organisation, he is now introducing into our sport, ground breaking measurable training programmes, based on his innovatively designed Insight 32 drills & performance recording systems. To quote Howard "my aim is to utilise my coaching experience to produce future quality young players for the senior ranks, both at County and National level, and positively affect performance of competent players, whilst promoting a coaching culture in the sport of bowls through the sharing of knowledge". "Delivery on this would be a just reward for the innovation and support received from fellow like minded thinkers". During 2019 his experience and work was recognised by Buckinghamshire Bowls Association in appointing Howard as their County Coach and in 2021/22 he was awarded Coach Bowls prestigious “Coach of the year award”, which was followed by Bowls England’s own “Coach of the year award”. Further recognition of his coaching talents have been recognised by Bowls England in his appointment to the National Coach's panel of coaching, whereby he provides coaching support on various National coaching events. He is responsible for introducing The Bowls Clinic to the organisation and now successfully runs popular group coaching sessions at all levels on a regular basis. Howard is widely known for his enthusiasm and light and friendly approach to coaching and his in depth attention to the impact of biomechanics within the Pre-delivery process, has on a consistent delivery.
